The Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for a W1-Professorship in Data Visualization/Visual Analytics(without tenure track)to be filled as soon as possible.

Suitable candidates have a track record of publications in the area of data visualization/visual analytics in conference proceedings and/or journals. We look for a personality with a convincing research vision that is connectable to the research of other groups in the Institute of Computer Science or the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. We explicitly encourage applications at an early stage after the PhD. Willingness to attract competitive external funding is expected, teaching experience is an advantage.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the degree programmes of the Institute of Computer Science (BSc and MSc in Computer Science as well as MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science). Participation in collaborative research projects (for example in the Cluster of Excellence in Plant Sciences CEPLAS, the NRW research initiative „Multi-Omics Data Science“ (MODS), the Manchot research group „Decision Making Using Artificial Intelligence Methods“ or the HHU research group DiscourseData4Policy) as well as in the Heine Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (HeiCAD) is very welcome. The faculty and HHU support the establishment of a working group and its integration into the faculty (research management and transfer, international networking, qualification of young researchers via JUNO and iGRAD, among others).

Conditions for employment are, in addition to general administra-tive conditions in accordance with § 36 of the North Rhine-West-phalia University Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements.

Employment is initially for three years. Given a successful evaluation in the third year, employment will be renewed for another three years.

Women of equal aptitude, ability and professional competence will receive particular consideration, unless there are compelling reasons for choosing another applicant.
