45,000 students, 8,000 employees in teaching, research and administration, all working together to shape perspectives for the future – that is the University of Münster (WWU). Embedded in the vibrant atmosphere of Münster with its high standard of living, the University’s diverse research profile and attractive study programmes draw students and researchers throughout Germany and from around the world.

The Faculty of Philology (FB 9) at the University of Münster (WWU) seeks to fill the position of a

W1 assistant professor (Juniorprofessor) with W2 tenure track in
Innovation and Transfer in Digital Teaching

at the soonest possible date. The newly established W1 assistant professorship is jointly financed by the Faculty of Philology and the University of Münster’s REACH Start-up Center, established through the programme “Excellence Start-up Centre.NRW” of North Rhine-Westphalia. The professorship represents an important component of the University’s inter-disciplinary efforts to shape the research-based digitalisation of the educational sector beyond the scope of higher education, and thereby assumes responsibility for the area of higher education quality assurance and development.

The prospective candidate will represent the disciplinary field of e-learning in research and teaching and take into account the entire development cycle from concept and design to technical implementation to final evaluation (including learning analysis). The professorship will also consider science-based funding of start-ups in the area of digital teaching. Possible research focuses include e-assessment, educational data science, intelligent tutorial sys-tems, learning analytics, interaction support for in-person instruction, construction of virtual learning rooms and content management systems.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should hold a university degree, subject-related and didactic aptitude and a subject-relevant doctoral degree, as well as post-graduate research achievements in the area of innovation and transfer in digital teaching, completed in connection with research activities at a university, research institute or private-sector enterprise in Germany or abroad. We are looking for applicants who possess verifiable interdisciplinary qualification in the areas of philology, computer science and economics (es-pecially entrepreneurship), as well as experience in teaching, international research collaborations and the acquisition of research funding. The candidate should demonstrate a willingness to network within the Faculty of Philology, the Excellence Start-up Center (REACH), the Centre for Teaching in Higher Education (ZHLdigital) and the University Centre for Teacher Education (ZfL). He/she will be required to teach courses in bachelor’s, master’s and M.Ed. degree programmes offered at the University of Münster, especially those in the Faculty of Philology.

The position is initially limited to three years with the possibility of a three-year extension following a positive interim evaluation. Upon receiving a positive final evaluation, the appointee will be granted a permanent W2-level appointment.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. The University of Münster is committed to employing more staff with disabilities. Candidates with recognised severe disabilities who have equivalent qualifications are given preference in hiring deci-sions.

Please submit your application with the customary documents (CV, certificates, list of publications, list of given courses, including teaching concepts and evaluations if available, list of successfully acquired research funds) in electronic form only (PDF format) by 13 January 2022 to:
