The Department of Network and Data Science invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Applied Statistics at the level of assistant or associate professor.

Full or Part Time: Full-time (40 hours/week).

The Department of Network and Data Science at the Central European University carries out research with focus both on the foundations of network science and on data driven applications. The Department offers a PhD program in Network Science, the only program of this kind in Europe, with fully funded scholarships each year, which attracts students from all over the world. In addition, the Department is launching an undergraduate (B.A.) program on Quantitative Social Sciences and planning a masters program on Computational Social Science. Qualifications: We expect applications from applied statisticians with an excellent publication record and a commitment to excellence in teaching as well. Experience with the analysis of social or behavioral data and/or statistical inference methods for network science will be a significant advantage. Candidates should have a strong motivation to conduct interdisciplinary research and be interested in participating in projects with other departments at CEU. Ability to conduct high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching of mathematics and statistics is a requirement. Candidates should have a PhD in statistics, mathematics or related disciplines. Tasks: The candidate will be expected to carry out high level research in applied statistics and be able to obtain related external funding. CEU has an internal project and travel support scheme too. The candidate will be expected to teach mathematics, statistics and data science at undergraduate and graduate level as well as supervise thesis work. The teaching load is calibrated for a research university model. The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental administrative services. Compensation: We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience as well as additional benefits (e.g., sabbatical system, pension plan). The initial contract is for 6 years for the Assistant Professor rank and up to 4 years for the Associate Professor rank. Contracts are renewable and can be turned into indefinite, depending on outcome of review.
